Mimic is built to collect hands, not people. Here is exactly what is kept and how to remove it.

On your device

  • Hand tracking and face detection run in your browser. The live camera image is not sent anywhere while you record.
  • If a face appears while recording, the recording stops and is discarded on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Your browser remembers your nickname, your contributor code and a random device id (in local storage) so you do not have to type them again. Clear your site data to remove them.

What we receive when you press send

  • The 10 second clip, without sound.
  • The hand data: hand points per frame, which hand, a confidence score and timestamps.
  • The task, your nickname, and your confirmations (18 or older, consent to publish).
  • For spam and abuse limits: a keyed hash of your IP address and of the device id. We do not store the IP address itself. These hashes are removed when a clip is deleted.

What we do with it

  • The server re-encodes the clip, which removes metadata such as location and device model, and makes a small preview.
  • A few still frames go to a vision model provider (through OpenRouter) to check the task, that only hands are visible and that nothing private is in view. They are sent only for that check.
  • Rejected clips are deleted from the server right away. Clips that need a person stay private until someone reviews them.
  • Accepted clips are published in the open dataset under CC BY 4.0, with the hand data, the task and your nickname.

Wallet sign-in

If you sign in with Phantom we store your public wallet address and whether it holds $MIMIC, so we can unlock holder features. If you link your nickname, the leaderboard shows a holder badge. We never see your secret phrase and never ask for a transaction.

Deleting your data

Use your contributor code in the form on this page to delete single clips or everything, including your nickname. Files are removed from the server straight away and leave the live dataset at once. Daily snapshots built after that no longer contain them; older snapshots are replaced within a week. Copies that other people already downloaded cannot be recalled, which is why we ask dataset users to refresh from recent snapshots.

If you lost your code, message Mimic on X with the links to your clips and we delete them by hand.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and you can object to how it is used. Contact Mimic on X. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Cookies

Mimic sets only functional cookies: one if you sign in with a wallet, and one for the admin. No ads, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics.
